Sunday 16th April
St Paul's Students Visit Kanto April, 2000!

Today was our first full day in Japan. After a late night we weren't exactly looking forward to getting up early, but the beautiful breakfast we received soon fixed that. After breakfast we left Blueberry hill Katsuura and by bus went to the morning markets. As Australians we were expecting the usual Sunday morning markets of breakfasts, bracelets, and bargains. But instead we walked onto a street of smelly fish and small bracelets, and bargains. Our first culture shock! Most of the stands sold some sort of fish or food or little knick -knacks.

Along the road we came across a beautiful cemetery that was well kept, so we had a look around and you could realize immediately that the Japanese have much respect for those who have passed on.

After getting back to Blueberry hill and eating lunch, we had the pleasure of meeting 33 excited and friendly Okitsu Junior high school students. With them we did Kendo, card games, origami and singing. It was a very fun afternoon thanks to the students, because they were so friendly. We then swapped food. We ate Japanese snacks and they ate the Australian snacks that we had brought with us.

After farewelling the students we had free time until dinner in which we made up "Extreme Ping Pong". But that's another story…
